Capitan launches Chart Assistant, an AI chart builder
Reading Time: 3 minutes
A gym owner wants to see monthly revenue by membership type for the last year. Previously, most gym reporting tools meant using a metric dropdown, a date range picker, an interval setting, and a filter panel. Four decisions before the chart even renders. Today it means typing one sentence and waiting a few seconds.
Gym reporting tools, without the clicking
That’s Chart Assistant, live now inside the existing Chart Builder. Describe what you want to see. It works out the metric, the timeframe, the interval, the filters. Not quite right? Push back on it like you would with a person. Ask for the same numbers broken out by location, or swap the interval without starting over.
More than a chat window
Four other upgrades to Capitan’s gym reporting tools shipped in the same release, and none of them depend on typing a request. Composite metrics let an operator define a custom measure from scratch. Net revenue per member after refunds, say, becomes one trackable number instead of a monthly manual calculation. Product attribute filtering narrows a report down to the exact fields a given gym cares about. Cleaner display controls make the resulting charts easier to read at a glance. And Dashboard Builder pulls everything onto one screen. Chart Assistant is the headline, but Chart Builder itself got more capable underneath it.
Twelve charts, one screen
Dashboard Builder, the biggest addition to these gym reporting tools in this release, lets an operator arrange up to twelve charts and tables on a single screen for at-a-glance reporting, built from the Reporting section using existing saved charts and tables or new ones specified on the spot, with a preview shown before each one is placed. Dashboards can stay private or go out to the whole organization, run fullscreen on a display, and refresh automatically about every ten minutes. Set a time range or location filter once and it applies across every chart on the board. A membership manager, for instance, could put memberships sold this month, referral counts, and member churn on one screen and leave it there.
Why the guardrails matter more than the AI
“Operators know exactly what they want to see in their data, they just don’t always want to click through menus to get there,” said Wesley Verne, Cofounder at Capitan.
The hard problem was never the chart. It was making sure a natural-language request couldn’t quietly produce an incorrect one. So Chart Assistant is limited to what Chart Builder could already do by hand. Every chart it proposes gets checked against Capitan’s business rules twice, once at the suggestion and again the moment it’s applied.
The same discipline shows up in what leaves the building. Capitan sends only organizational configuration data to its third-party AI providers. Customer records stay put. So does every number behind every chart a gym has ever built.
“Chart Assistant lets someone type ‘show me monthly revenue by membership type for the last year’ and get a finished, accurate chart in seconds, without ever leaving the guardrails that keep the data reliable,” Verne said.
FAQ: Gym reporting tools built on Chart Assistant
Does Chart Assistant work with reports I’ve already built?
Yes. It lives inside the existing Chart Builder, so it can generate new charts from scratch or work from the same saved charts and tables already in your account.
What data does Chart Assistant send to AI providers?
Only organizational configuration data. Customer records and the underlying numbers behind every chart stay on Capitan’s side.
Is Chart Assistant available now?
Yes. These gym reporting tools are live for every Capitan customer, alongside the rest of the Chart Builder release.
Where to find it
Chart Assistant and the rest of Capitan’s gym reporting tools are already live for every Capitan customer.
